We are emerging and professional artists from across the globe with a common interest, painting in PLEIN AIR. We use different mediums, have different perspectives, and are visual storytellers; capturing light, mood and atmosphere.
First Coast Plein Air Painters (FCPAP) is a group of enthusiastic and dedicated plein air painters based in Northeast Florida/Southeast Georgia called “The First Coast”. We maintain a strong membership that paints outdoors together regularly, provides exhibition opportunities, and supports the community with demonstrations and fundraising. Our members share a special camaraderie for the visual arts.
We are currently accepting 2025 NEW and RENEWING memberships.

Board Members
Stephen Dunn
Stephen grew up in the country setting in Pennsylvania. A great deal of his time was spent doing what most country boys do, fishing, hunting and taking in the outdoors he loved so much. Stephen’s father had a farm with cattle and horses among other things. The oldest son of 6 children, the brothers would go to the mountains to see the elk, bears, deer, and other wild animals. This is what Stephen began to paint, mostly from memories. Stephen is the President of the First Coast Plein Air Painters of Jacksonville, Florida and on the Board of Plein Air South Convention. He teaches oil/acrylic painting and drawing classes out of his studio in the CoRK Art District in Jacksonville, Florida.
“My love for the outdoors helps me to see what has been created and to put it on to canvas.”
Susan Schwartz
Art has been the center of Sue’s life, including childhood art classes, double majoring in Art History and Studio Art in college, working as a Visual Merchandiser in retail, and owning a decorative painting company that collaborated with interior designers, builders, and architects.
Throughout her career, she worked on her own fine art, taking classes and workshops around the world. Now retired, plein air and studio oil painting is her life and joy. Sue has been on the FCPAP Board of Directors for three years, helping to grow the membership and create educational, exhibition, and sales opportunities for the art community. @Schwartz918

Carron Wedlund
Originally from Chicago, Carron attended Northern Illinois University majoring in Graphic Design. Later she earned her BFA degree from the University of North Florida. For several years she worked in the commercial art field doing layout design for print media, corporate identity programs and presentation graphics. She is a member and has served on the boards of the First Coast Pastel Society and the Art Guild of Orange Park. Carron has been on the FCPAP board for about 5 years mostly serving as Show Chairman. She finds the venue, meets with them, and makes things happen. Everything that goes into hanging a show, coordinating the judging, the awards, the volunteers, and moving on to the next. Carron is our rock.
Doug Johnson

Jackie Pfaff-Pratt
Jackie began her career in Plein air painting as a Junior in college. She dragged her studio easel outside to paint a landscape of Keuka Lake. She didn’t know it was anything out of the ordinary… it was a nice spring day in upstate New York.
Jackie spent the majority of her life in New York. She taught art for 32 years then moved to Maryland where she pursued her interest in Plein air painting. Six years later she moved to Jacksonville, Florida. She quickly found the First Coast Plein Air Painters and became a member. Jackie continues to volunteer and serve on the Board of Directors.
