"What could be more wonderful than the life of a painter?"

Richard Schmid

“The sun doesn’t wait for you to get your colors mixed."

Sergei Bongart

“Paint the light, not the thing.”

Charles Hawthorne

“Plein air painting is about being in the moment, absorbing the light, color, and mood of a scene with all your senses.”

Unknown

“You can’t paint the same river twice. Everything changes—light, shadow, color—and you change too.”

Lori Putnam

“In the studio, I’m a thinker. In the field, I’m a feeler.”

Kathleen Dunphy

“Painting outdoors sharpens your eye and speeds up your decision-making. It demands honesty.”

Richard Schmid

“Plein air painting is the best training a painter can have. Nature won’t wait, so you learn to trust your instincts.”

Kevin Macpherson

“You come face to face with nature—not just as a viewer, but as a participant.”

Clyde Aspevig
